What is hemp?
Hemp, or industrial hemp, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. It is one of the fastest growing plants and can be refined into a variety of commercial items including food, paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, insulation, biofuels etc.
Industrial hemp is the most nutritionally complete food source in the world, and was only legalised for human consumption in Australia and New Zealand in November 2017.
Industrial hemp is:
- Gluten free
- Low in carbohydrates
- Excellent source of plant based protein (approx. 33%)
- High in Omega's 3, 6 and 9
- Richest most balanced source of Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s)
- High in fibre, magnesium, manganese, antioxidants
- Highly digestible
